Only Audio - No Video
From Miro User Documentation
Issue: Able to find the videos and play them in VLC. On the first try, a black screen with sound. VLC forums suggest changing some settings (here's the link to that forum: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=35937 ). Changing the setting to "direct 3d vido output" solved the problem completely on VLC for some...

Solution:
The instructions posted on the VLC forum:
- Make sure your video card drivers are up-to-date and to go into VLC, right-click on the interface and go to:
Miscellaneous > Preferences > Video > Output modules > (check the "advanced options" box) choose "DirectX video output" (best one) or "DirectX 3D video output" from the drop-down box. - CloudStalker on http://forum.videolan.org.
The instructions posted on the Miro trac:
- ...If you have VLC installed, play with the video output until you get it working properly (as in, you can see the video and it doesn't bust down to Aero basic). Modes that have apparently worked are DirectX, Direct3D and OpenGL (I think OpenGL works on nVidia cards, as I have a 7900GS and it works for me).
- Once you have done that, go to Start, and type in
"C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\vlc".
You'll see a "vlcrc" file. Copy that.
- Now, go to where you installed Miro, ie C:\Program Files\Participatory Culture Foundation\Miro. Paste the vlcrc file in there. Start Democracy and run a video.

XP
Enable the windows explorer to show hidden files.
Find "vlcrc" file in C:\Documents and Settings\"your user name"\Application Data\vlc
copy it and paste it into
C:\Program Files\Participatory Culture Foundation\Miro.
I started Miro and video played immediately.
