MITV Videos: Bringing the Site to Life

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

We recently put out a call to experienced video producers, requesting short videos with advice about “making internet video”. The best of these will be embedded in Make Internet TV.

I want to bring a particularly good example to your attention: Erik Beck of the brand new show, Indy Mogul, made this GREAT video.

He really hits the nail on the head, beginning with a personal introduction, a mention of his show, and a bit of solid, clear, and concise advice.

The videos look really nice when they’re actually embedded in the site. The Video Info / Embed It button reveals credits, links, and embed tags.

I think we’ll see more and more MITV videos rolling in soon — as they do, I’ll be sure to blog the best of them.

PS. Rumor has it, Rocketboom is going to do an MITV video (you can too)!

Old School Viral: Spreading MITV

Monday, May 14th, 2007

Analog is the new digital!

I just ordered 2,000 of these postcards, and will distribute them to raise awareness about MakeInternetTV.org in schools and other education-centric institutions. I think MITV could really spiff up existing digital media curricula.

Spread the Word:
If you’re inspired to get the MITV word out, you can use these print quality PDF files (Front, Back). They are 4.25″x6.25″ and should be cut to 4″x6″. There are a lot of inexpensive online printers out there.

Publishers Hurt by Hosting Giants?

Monday, May 14th, 2007

This post on NewTeeVee makes a point that’s crucial to our mission: some of the best new online publishers are avoiding the biggest video hosting sites like YouTube. In doing so, they lose access to a potentially enormous audience, but they gain control. Democracy Player is designed to make that unfortunate trade-off obsolete; if viewers become the point of aggregation, rather than hosting sites, then publishers can shop around for their best options and viewers can watch anyway they want.

Tons of New Channels Available

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

After our transition to the new Channel Guide, we accumulated a pretty serious backlog of unreviewed channels.

There are a lot of really amazing recent submissions.

We also have some great volunteer moderators — this time, we’ve got to give lots of props to Jon D., who really whipped things into shape.

PS. Make sure you check out the Washington Posts’ HD channel, the Small Carrot channel, and the BBC Radio 1 Video Podcast channel.
