Update: We just got our 100th subscriber– we’re off to a pretty good start. But we still need your help!
We’ve rewritten the Channel Guide from scratch to be faster and easier to use. Best of all, this new code is a solid foundation for adding more features over the next few months including good rating and sharing systems.
In the next week, this will replace the current Channel Guide. But until then, we could use your help testing to make sure everything is working ok.
To test the new Channel Guide, go to the ‘Channels’ menu and pick “New Channel Guide”. Then paste in this URL:

CAVEATS: data submitted to this guide will be lost when we make the switch. For example, you can submit new channels for testing purposes, but they won’t last long. This guide is only for testing purposes right now. Also, we’re playing with speed optimizations, so the site might be intermittently slow or zippy. We’ll have things moving smoothly before the guide goes live.
Now that we’re close to version 1.0, we’re beginning to offer custom versions of Democracy Player to organizations and companies that want to give their users the best internet video app around, pre-stocked with their own channels and a custom channel guide. It’s not a cheap service, since it involves programming work on our side, but it’s probably a lot cheaper than it would be to hire someone to do it for you (which, since we’re open-source, you can do). It can be a great way to really keep users connected to your content and message.

There’s a new version of XiphQT, which is the behind-the-scenes code that helps Democracy Player for OSX play Ogg files. We’ll be including this in an upcoming release of ours and it should make Ogg playback much more efficient. If you use the XiphQT plugin yourself, this version supports creation of Oggs, which is very handy.
